Garfield Elementary School is located on a small three-acre urban site. The project emphasizes its unique contextual quality with literal references to surrounding Hispanic cultural values. The facility is designed utilizing the value engineering concepts of lower first cost, effective long-term maintenance operations, and durable materials. Energy conservation and inherent energy management systems are an integral part of the project, including the optimization of natural light and air, shade and shadow, and energy efficient mechanical/electrical systems. The site is designed for joint-use before and after school programs.
